CROSSED EYES

Is it normal for children to have crossed eyes?

Yes, a newborn can have crossed eyes for the first 3 to 4 months as the eyes learn to coordinate their movements. Beyond this age, however, it is not normal.

Do crossed eyes become normal as the child ages?

If one or both eyes are consistently moving inward or outward, it is necessary to consult your eye doctor and not wait till the child grows older.

But my child is so young…

The best results are seen in younger children. Often, glasses can solve the problem. In some cases, however, surgery may be needed.

Is it not better for the child to grow up before thinking of surgery?

If surgery is the only way to correct crossed eyes, it is important to get it done at a young age. The eyes learn to coordinate with each other much better and develop good depth perception. There is less risk of one eye becoming lazy. And most importantly, the child grows up as a normal child, without anyone teasing or making fun of the crossed eyes.
